Hemming pants is basically a part-time job for me. At 4'9", all of my pants need to be hemmed all the time. There is never an off-the-rack pair that is the right length.
Cutting my jeans with a pair of scissors is my favorite way to hem jeans. It's fast, easy, and gets the job done. Plus, frayed jeans are stylish right now, so take advantage!
Sometimes, so they don't fray too far up, you can sew a straight seam 1/4" up from the edge. But I've found that most of the time, it's not necessary.
